Learning from practice – from practice to practice

With the research program Experimental Housing and Urban Development (ExWoSt), the Federal Government is promoting innovative planning and measures in important urban planning and housing policy research fields in the form of scientifically supported model projects. The BBR supervises this program and regularly publishes the results of the research fields and model projects (www.bbr.bund.de).

In the field of Urban Redevelopment West, the urban planning instruments including the urban development of the federal government are to be reviewed and, if necessary, recommendations for further development are given. This applies in particular to their suitability for spatially controlling declining developments, as far as they are or will be influential in western Germany. The focus of the study is a “quality offensive” for the urban living space.

This requires pilot projects that help to clarify how the Confederation can positively support the expected change in city regions, cities and districts that are no longer characterized by growth.
